There are moments in life when change is no longer something we can think our way through.
Something breaks open. The old structures stop holding. The identities, assumptions, and ways of moving through the world that once served us no longer quite fit.
This is the territory of initiation.
Much of my writing and coaching lately has been circling this question: What happens after disruption changes the way we understand ourselves? How do we rebuild self-trust? How do we metabolize what has happened to us rather than simply move past it? And how might the experiences that undo us also become the substance from which something new is made?
That is why I’m thrilled to be participating in The Way of the Initiate Summit, taking place online September 21–25, 2026.
My presentation, From Collapse to Flourishing, explores what happens when the structures we have relied on—our identities, assumptions, plans, and sense of self—no longer hold. I talk about collapse as a form of initiation: an invitation to surrender what no longer fits, rebuild self-trust, and transform difficult experience into a more grounded, authentic way of living.
The free summit brings together more than twenty speakers exploring initiation, transformation, consciousness, embodied awakening, and what it means to cross a threshold and emerge changed.
I’m also honoured to be one of the contributing authors to The Way of the Initiate, which launches live during the summit on September 23.
My own contribution comes from territory I know well: the places where life asks us to surrender what we thought we knew, encounter ourselves differently, and begin the long work of turning experience into meaning.
Perhaps that is one of the essential differences between learning and initiation.
We can learn about transformation.
An initiation asks us to become someone we have not been before.
