I’ve been writing on Substack, and I’d love to invite you into the conversation.
If you’re unfamiliar with Substack, it’s a platform where writers publish essays, stories and reflections, and readers can subscribe to receive them directly by email. It’s part newsletter, part blog, and part community of writers and readers exchanging ideas.
My publication is called Flourish with Sarah Farina.
It’s a space for curious people, meaning-makers, threshold-crossers and anyone who senses that the life they’ve built might not quite fit the person they’re becoming.
Why I write on Substack
Writing has become an important part of how I explore the world and make sense of my experiences.
Sometimes I write about the big things: identity, loss, resilience, self-trust and transformation. Other times, it’s about mushrooms, creativity, travel, or the unexpected humour in being human.
I’m particularly interested in those moments when our familiar ways of understanding ourselves and the world stop working. What happens when we can’t think or plan our way forward? What becomes possible when we let go of what we thought we knew?
Substack gives me room to explore these questions without needing to arrive at tidy conclusions. And one of its pleasures is finding other writers whose words open up entirely new ways of seeing.
What you’ll find there
My writing wanders through several interconnected themes:
Collapse and transformation. What happens when life unravels, and how we discover who we are on the other side.
Identity, leadership and meaningful work. Exploring success, purpose, self-trust and creating a life that reflects who we’ve become.
Creativity and curiosity. The pleasure of exploring ideas, writing, noticing strange connections and following what fascinates us.
Travel, nature and pilgrimage. Reflections from the Camino de Santiago, experiences of other cultures, and the wisdom we find in landscapes and journeys.
These threads come together in what I call The Midlife Shimmy: the unsettled, sometimes exhilarating movement between who we’ve been and who we’re becoming.
A few places to begin
If you’re curious, here are a few pieces that offer a taste of what I write.
- The Midlife Shimmy: When you realize you have grown and your life is standing still — An introduction to the ideas behind my writing and the strange, wonderful process of becoming.
- What does self-trust look like when you’re living in uncertainty? — On rebuilding trust in ourselves when the world no longer makes sense.
- I believe in mycelium just like the dark moon — Mushrooms, unseen connections and the wonder of what exists beneath the surface.
- I got a standing ovation at a rage room — A rather unexpected adventure in expressing anger, with a good dose of absurdity.
- From Private to Published — How writing moved from a private practice into a more public part of my life.

Come join the conversation
One of the loveliest things about Substack is that it isn’t just a place to publish. It’s a place to encounter people who are exploring their own questions, sharing their experiences and making connections along the way.
You can read everything on my publication for free, subscribe to receive new writing by email, and join conversations in the comments.
I’d love to see you there.
